By bringing together the heritage and tradition of Savile Row and a young design, Joshua Kane has placed himself at the forefront of London men's fashion. Once objects of desire, classic British-made suits might have lost some of their lustre over time. Kane, a revivalist of sorts, sees the merit in bespoke tailoring and is resolved to bringing it back to the Zeitgeist.
Sharp houndstooth suits and superbly tailored waistcoats are paired with the most exquisite umbrellas with handles in effortlessly elegant shapes. The polished black leather brogues add a contrast to the light scarfs in black and white and a warm gold. To say that Kane has an eye for detail would be an understatement and our high expectations for his fashion show at LCM Fashion week earlier this year were more than satisfied.
For Kane, there has never been a better fashion era than the time of the dandies. It was a time when tailors were so familiar with their clients’ needs, suits became an extension of one's personality. Based in Old Spitalfields Market, where straight-laced finance meets the subversive, Joshua Kane Bespoke evokes a time rich in pomp and pageantry.
Kane initially learned the ropes in-house at Burberry Prorsum, Jaeger and Paul Smith and started his eponymous label with a solid background in menswear tailoring. He began Joshua Kane Bespoke in a humble studio spare room in Islington. Having garnered glowing accolades in the press and relocating to Spitalfields Market, Kane is quickly becoming the toast of the British menswear industry.
Keeping in line with tradition, Kane often finds himself inspired by vintage markets. Antiques, sepia photography and tailoring paraphernalia of yesteryear have all proven to be great references for his work. In the same breath, he takes a whimsical tongue-in-cheek approach to his design sensibility to keep his pieces considered yet relevant.
The intricate detail that Kane has used so effectively on his way to become a style entrepreneur also reflects in his women’s collection and accesoires. Ultimately his bespoke service remains at the heart of the label.
