German Cheesecake

A Short Film

PRESENTED BY DPH PRODUCTION, 01.05.2020

With lockdown keeping us in the houses, not only the objects of our affection that we usually feature - such as fragrances - are there to delight out senses, but food becomes ever more important. More time to cook and bake means we can indulge in some more complex dishes - or twists on easy classics.

A premiere for us at The Protagonist, we present to you an exploration of food! More precisely, this German cheesecake recipe which has proven extremely popular. Some of the ingredients such as vanilla sugar which is widely available in Europe, can be replaced by a dash of vanilla essence. The traditional Vanilla pudding powder, which is also available in European countries, can unfortunately not be replaced. Luckily there are some online retailers or wonderful outlets such as the German Deli near London Bridge in London that stock this product and do online deliveries. We did receive a tip that perhaps cornstarch works in similar ways.

The film explores the beauty of the ingredient’s textures and the lusciousness of baking itself. Taking inspiration from 1950s filmmaking and presenting food on television, this short film does not only tell you how to make a beautiful cake but sets out to inspire visually.
