British-Indian fusion singer Unnati has released her music video for the single “Ye Raatein” today in anticipation of her album “Indigo Soul” that will release 28th of February.

Having grown up with Indian and British cultural traditions, Unnati Dasgupta has played at prominent venues such as the Barbican Centre, The Royal Albert Hall and Southbank Centre as well as prestigious festivals such as Mexican Cervantino Festival, Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai and the London Jazz Festival.

A singer and songwriter, Unnati takes inspiration from traditional Indian music such as Sufi and Bhajan but mixes her music with contemporary, pop, and jazz influences. Sufi music seeks to unite its listeners with the divine, often centring around the longing for transcending into spiritual realms. A diverse range of Sufi music has developed for over a millennium over the Asian and African continents including various forms across Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Turkey/Anatolia, Persia, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and India. Both listening and making Sufi music often takes shape as a ritual. Bhajan, in turn, are usually known as devotional songs with religious content originating in the Indian subcontinent.

Unnati successfully merges styles, pairing an immaculate singing voice with her musical talent and gifted musicians that have taken part in producing her album “Indigo Soul.”

“Ye Raatein” presents itself as a song that invites the listener to dream, its lyrics speak of longing through day and night for a loved one. The Protagonist team has created a video to reflect the lyrics and offer a visual interpretation of the music.

The album “Indigo Soul” releases 28th of February.
